ABSTRACT
The Emergency Room (ER) is one of the first accesses reached by people who have been affected by
Covid-19 or suspected of having Covid-19. Changes in health services in the ER during the Covid-19
Pandemic, and the adaptation of the new normal made ER adjustments by nurses. ER is one area that has
the potential to have a high risk of transmitting Covid-19. The purpose of this study was to determine the
work experience of nurses in dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic at a government hospital in Padang
City. This study is a qualitative study with semi-structured interviews conducted with nurses who serve in
the Emergency Department, who were selected based on inclusion criteria, nurses who had served in the
ER during the Covid-19 pandemic, for a minimum of 6 months. The results of the interviews were
processed using the Collaizi technique. The participants in this study were 5 emergency room nurses. The
results of the study found 3 themes, namely fear of being infected, excessive workload, the roles of nurse
managers in Covid-19 Management. Therefore, it takes care and attention from the leadership of nurses
and hospital management to prepare human resources and facilities in following with non-natural
disaster conditions, so that the nurse's response-ability in dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic is
responsive.
