Abstrak

Introduction:Diabetes Self Management Education (DSME) is education that is able to increase patient knowledge regarding strategies related to how to implement care independently. With increasing patient knowledge, it will have an impact on patient self-care, especially Type 2 DM patients.
Objective:the purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the Diabetes Self-Management Education (DSME) method on self-care behavior in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus patients.
Method:This type of research is a quasi experiment with a pre and posttest non equivalent control group approach. The sample in this study was 16 samples obtained by purposive sampling technique and divided into 2 groups. The instrument measures Self Care using the SDSCA questionnaire. Data were analyzed by paired t test and independent t test with 95% CI. This research was conducted on June 1-24, 2022.
Result and discussion:The results showed that the p value of the paired t test in the intervention group was 0.002 and 0.001 in the control group, while the p value of the independent t test was 0.047 (p value Ë‚ 0.05). It is expected that Type 2 DM patients will implement the DSME program which is useful for preventing complications and can improve self care behavior.
Conclusion:the results of the DSME assessment in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients using the summary of diabetes self care activity (SDSCA) questionnaire measuring tool proved that patients in the intervention group experienced an increase in knowledge of 75%.
