A CASE REPORT OF PERIOPERATIVE NURSING: BODY TEMPERATURE MANAGEMENT IN SURGERY PATIENT OF MITRAL VALVE REPAIR WITH CARDIOPULMONARY BYPASS
Keywords:body temperature management, cardiopulmonary bypass, case study
AbstractMitral valve repair (MVr) procedure with Cardiopulmonary Bypass (CPB) can be used for repairing the regurgitation. Management of body temperature should be started as soon as possible during MVr surgery with CPB to reduce the risk complication during intraoperative and postoperative. The purpose of this study was to describe body temperature management during MVr surgery with CPB. The method of this study was a descriptive case study with observasional approach wherein started from preoperative to postoperative in Surgical Central Department Prof. dr. IGNG Ngoerah Hospital. The study showed that body temperature management during surgery with CPB consist of the cooling and rewarming process. In this case study, management of body temperature was used during CPB, such as applied surgical heater/cooler blankets, heat exchanger on CPB machine, and irrigation of cold and warm fluid. The body temperature management was done to achieve the condition of moderate hypothermia (260-310C) and reaches the target temperature when rewarming in temperature 340-350C, however, it was not more than 360C. Perioperative nurses play a vital role in assisting surgical procedure, especially for maintaining body temperature based on standard temperature among patients undergoing MVr surgery with CPB.
